Glenn T. Harrell, Jr.

Retired Judge, Court of Appeals of Maryland

Issue: Where another jurisdiction indefinitely suspended a lawyer who claimed that a mental illness rendered him incapable of defending himself in a pending disciplinary case, what action should the Court of Appeals take with respect to his Maryland license?

Holding: Because the attorney's self-professed disability persuaded the District of Columbia Court of Appeals to hold the case in abeyance and to suspend him indefinitely, the Maryland Court of Appeals found it necessary to take reciprocal action by placing this attorney on inactive status until further order.

Violations: Maryland Rule 16-773 (reciprocal discipline or inactive status).
